Thursday's Blog

This Thursday's Blog isn't really a blog - but it's a fun website, so I wanted to share it with you. It's called Go Try It On - and it's a site where you can give an opinion or get an opinion. You can submit pictures of yourself wearing different outfits and get opinions from the community (or just from your friends), or you can give opinions on outfits others have posted.

It has the potential to get really catty - but I've yet to see anyone say anything mean. Most people really try to be helpful with their comments. And trust me, some of these folks really need some good advice!

I like looking at all of the different outfits. Sometimes it's amusing, sometimes it's appalling (which is kind of amusing), sometimes it's cute, and sometimes it's stunning. There are a few pics of guys, but mostly it's women/girls.

It's kind of like "What Not To Wear" without Stacy and Clinton. And all of the faces are blurred, so there is no public humiliation. Of course, there's also no trip to New York - and no $5000 to spend on clothes. But hey, you get free advice.

Thursday's Blog

I haven't done a Thursday's Blog post for awhile, so it's about time I do!!

This Thursday's blog is Go Fug Yourself.
 
If you haven't seen it - you must go right now. Yes, that's right. Just stop reading my blog and go directly to Go Fug Yourself. Do not pass "Go", do not collect $200.

This blog makes me alternate between giggling with glee at how some stars with bazillions of dollars to buy clothes and shoes can't dress themselves any better than, well, some of the people on the People of Walmart website (This pic of Shannon Doherty will serve as Exhibit A) and drooling over the loveliness and classiness of other stars (This pic of Salma Hayek will serve as Exhibit B).

And seriously - what was Jessica Simpson thinking when she went out in public dressed like this?? From the neck up, she looks adorable. Heck, I'll even go so far as to say from the waist up, she looks adorable. But it's all downhill from there. Yikes.

But I digress.

The pictures are awesome and the writing is hilarious. I usually save all of my GFY reading until the end of the day, when I can kick back, relax, and really enjoy it.

Thursday's Blog

This Thursday's blog is another "girly" blog - yay for girly things!! It's all about another one of my favorite girly things - nail polish!!

I can't tell you how many bottles of nail polish I've purchased just to get them home and find out that they look nothing like they appear in the bottle. Sigh. What a waste of time and money! They should have tester bottles!

Scrangie's blog is all about seeing actual pictures of the polish on her nails! It's so awesome! I admit, her nails scare me a little bit - but I can look past that, LOL.

I am fascinated by all of the polishes she shows - I had no idea there were so many lines of nail polish! The most recent one to hold me mesmerized is this:

I'm not a fan of nail art, and I wouldn't do this on my fingernails - but I'm imagining this on toenails for summer! Maybe in a hot pink and white or coral and yellow. Maybe even pink on pink. Or with a different design. But I think it would look cute with a tan and sandals - especially at the beach!

The plates are available from Konad - and the cost is $5.90 each. There are 7 designs on each plate. And there are SOOOOO many designs from which to choose!! The stamping kit is $4.90 and includes the stamper and scraper. The plate holder is $2.50. They also offer some kits - from reasonable to pricey. The special polish (used for the design) is $3.90 for a 5ml bottle or $6.50 for a 10ml bottle.

This shows how to apply the nail art. And this is a video showing how to apply. I think I could do this with a little practice. Anyone else game to give it a try? Or has anyone already tried it?

Thursday's Blog

Cancer sucks. I think just about everyone has had cancer touch their lives in one way or another. And it sucks.

My Papa (grandfather) died of prostate cancer in 2006 and my dad died of stomach cancer in 2008. I have a dear friend who had melanoma and cervical cancer - thank God she is a cancer survivor.

My blog pick for this week is i kicked cancer's @ss. The blog's author is Meaghan, a 32 year old cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with end-stage cervical cancer at age 28. Her story is incredible.

On her blog, you can read stories from people who are fighting cancer and from those who have kicked cancer's ass. You can also find information resources as well as links to sites that donate part of their proceeds to various cancer organizations.

Meaghan also founded Spirit Jump, "a grassroots nonprofit organization with a mission to provide hope and comfort to the many men, women and children battling cancer. Spirit Jump accomplishes this by providing uplifting cards and inspirational gifts during this most difficult time." 

If you have time, check out Meaghan's blog - and make sure you have some tissues handy. The stories are very moving, and you'll see incredible strength of spirit.

This Thursday's blog is Moggit - The Mogg Blogg. According to their profile, Joy and Janet created Moggit to "tackle 'fugly' design and home decor on a daily basis".

This blog is hilarious! Pictures of the most outlandish things that make you ask "WTF?". - Their comments are hysterical. They have polls asking for your opinion on home decor - and the answer choices offered will make you laugh out loud. It's a place where you can make fun without feeling guilty. And if you're like me, the things they show will make your decorating choices seem downright professional, LOL!

They even have videos on HGTV.com - like this one...

Everyone needs a reason to smile - and this Thursday's blog is so very smile-worthy! I love animals - and I frequently assign human emotions & speech to my pets, LOL. So it stands to reason that I would be vastly amused by a blog that belongs to a sassy pug princess.

Wilma the Pug - the musings, antics, and general escapades of a royal pug and her minions...

The pictures range from adorable to hilarious - and the captions always make me laugh. As an animal lover and a pet owner, I can relate to it all, LOL! Be sure to read Wilma's birthday post; and the post about Sluggo's Lil Buddy is pretty funny, too. This blog is proof that a picture is worth a thousand words.

If you love animals and think pugs are so ugly they're cute, you should definitely check out Wilma's blog. It's guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!

Thursday's Blog

I listen to music every day - even if it's just while I'm putting my makeup on in the morning. It's been a part of my daily life as long as I can remember. It's one of my greatest pleasures - and I credit my mom for this. She used to sing all of the time - wait, what am I saying? She still sings all of the time, LOL. When I was a kid, she used to buy those Reader's Digest sets of records and tapes. She had one that was music from the 50's - and I swear, I still can sing every lyric to every song in that collection. It's true what they say about the memory and music - you remember words set to music far more easily.

I'm always looking for new songs and artists to add to my collection - which is why I enjoy this Thursday's blog so much. Mary's Monday Musicology is great for music lovers. She introduces artists and songs, and tells you about free (legal) music downloads, etc. Through her blog, I've found several new artists that I really enjoy.

If you don't already know about amazon.com's mp3 downloads, be sure to check them out. A lot of their music is cheaper than iTunes, and they have hundreds of free songs! In addition to the catalogued freebies, they have a daily freebie, too. And they often have new album releases for $3.99! Yep, the same ones that are $9.99 and more on iTunes.

Thursday's Blog

I've always been interested in crafts - especially when they're a bit unusual. These cute little bowls caught my eye immediately:

I saw these bowls in the April 17, 2010 issue of Woman's Day - and they offer the instructions online. I think they're really cute - and would be a fun summer project for the kids - or darling handmade Easter "baskets".

The project is from the book "Home, Paper, Scissors: Decorative Paper Accessories for the Home" by Patricia Zapata. It's available from amazon.com for $13.57.

For those who are interested in being green - the more than 30 projects in the book use recycled paper.

Patricia Zapata sells her paper goods online at alittlehut.com and you can see some of her work here. She also has a blog: CraftySynergy.

In her blog, she interviews/showcases the work of other artists - some of which can be found on etsy.com. There are a lot of lovely pictures of their work, as well as links to their websites, and their contact information.

Thursday's Blog 3/11/10

I've mentioned before that I love just about anything vampire-related. And near the top of that list is HBO's series, True Blood. So this Thursday's blog(s) are all about True Blood!! C'mon - admit it - you like the show! And if you haven't seen it yet - well, you may not know what you're missing, but I'm going to show you! I've even managed to get Gus hooked on it. He resisted since the start of Season 1, but when I got the DVDs, I told him to watch just one episode to see if he liked it. I think he watched Season 1 in less than a week. It would be rude of me to point out that I was right, wouldn't it?

If you haven't seen the first season, get those DVDs!! Add them to your Netflix queue, borrow them from your local library (or a friend), or buy them! I was able to get them at Target right after Christmas for only $17.99. I'm assuming that Season 2 will be out on DVD around the time that Season 3 airs.

Season 3 will be starting this summer and I can't wait!! Of course, I devour any spoilers I can find. Yes, I've read the books, so I'm familiar with the characters - but the series doesn't follow the books exactly, so it keeps me guessing. Unfortunately, the spoilers only whet my appetite more rather than giving me instant gratification! I'm a TB junkie!

Let it be known that I am a loyal, die-hard, faithful-til-the-end Eric fan. Bill bugs the crap out of me and I wish Sookie would just get with Eric already! LOL! Eric is definitely the hottest guy on the show - which is saying a lot considering that there are a lot of good-looking guys on TB. However...I will say that I am pretty pleased with their choice of Joe Manganiello to play Alcide in Season 3:

 

What's not to like, right?? Whew. Lets just hope that he shifts a lot so that we can see him sans clothing.  :-) He could be some serious competition for Eric - you know how I like those Italian guys. (Yes, Gus is Italian.)

Thursday's Blog 3/4/10

As you've probably noticed, I love food. And because I love food, I love blogs that are about food. If they happen to include recipes and pretty pictures, all the better. So - surprise! This Thursday's blog of choice, Eat, Make, Read, is about food!

The blog was started in 2008 by Kelly Carámbula (you can read more about her here). Tuesday's entry was Chicken Tequila Burgers - and they look delicious!

Thursday's Blog 2/25/10

This Thursday's blog of choice is Pink Martinis & Pearls. It just appeals to me on so many different levels. The very first line of the 'About Me' section got me hook, line, & sinker - "Life is too short not to have a little pink umbrella in your drink."

Although I immensely enjoy reading the blog, I could just as easily be happy looking at all of the lovely pictures. Sigh. Pretty things. Lots of pretty pink things. And adult beverages. I want them all.

It's the kind of blog that you want to read while curled up in front of the fireplace on a cold, wintry night with a mug full of hot chocolate & peppermint Schnapps. Or maybe while lazing in the hammock on a warm sunny day, sipping a cold beverage spiked with a little something special - and or course, a pink umbrella. 

Take a look - I think you'll enjoy it!

Like I said yesterday - I LOVE CUPCAKES!! So for that reason, this Thursday's favorite blog is All Things Cupcake. 

 

Their site is chock full o' pretty cupcake pictures! They even have a gallery of cupcake tattoos! I do love cupcakes, but I don't think I love them quite enough to have one tattooed on my body - but never say never, LOL! They have cupcake recipes, cupcake products, and you can even find local cupcake bakeries (and leave a comment to add to the list), order cupcakes online from recommended bakeries, and read cupcake reviews.

Thursday's Blog 2/11/10

I love to read blogs - and I thought a good way to share some of my favorites with you would be to feature one every week. So starting today, every Thursday I will talk about one of my favorite blogs. I would love to hear about your favorite blogs, too - I'm always looking for new blogs to read!

 

This week's pick is amandaandkevin.com. They have several blogs - but one of my favorites is Fonts for Peas. They have over 300 free handwriting fonts that you can download. You may have noticed the cool font I used for my blog name & sidebar titles - that is their Hurry Up Beck font! They provide detailed instructions on how to install the fonts on your computer & also on how to use them in your blog. One problem you can encounter when using an "unusual" font on your blog is that unless you go through the proper steps, readers who don't have that font installed on their computers will not be able to see the font on your blog. So that makes part of your blog unreadable. Kevin & Amanda provide instructions on how to avoid this problem. The instructions are virtually fool-proof! I say "virtually" because I've read through some of the comments left on their blog & it's readily apparent that some people don't bother to read the instructions or poke around the site to find answers before asking the same question over & over again, LOL!

They also have a recipe blog. I swear, just looking at the pictures had me drooling on the keyboard! I haven't tried any of the recipes yet, but I can tell you that the Shrimp & Sausage Gumbo and the Best Chocolate Cake will be at the top of my list! Take a look - I'm sure you'll find at least one recipe that you can't wait to try.

 

And if you're into scrapbooking, they also have free scrapbook fonts that you can download. I haven't scrapbooked in years, but if I did, I would definitely be using their fonts.
