7 Things Never To Say To A Woman During a Fight...

Thursday, September 8, 2011

I recently read another funny little blurb in Redbook magazine, and thought I'd share. A couple of months ago, I posted one called "11 Things Never To Say To A Man You Love" - well, this one is called "7 Things Never To Say To A Woman During a Fight", LOL!

7 Things Never To Say To A Woman During A Fight
  1. Wait - I got distracted. What did you just say?
  2. Why can't you be more like [insert friend's name]'s wife?
  3. Hold on. I need a beer.
  4. Are you about to start your period?
  5. Can we do this after the game?
  6. Oh, you're really mad? I thought you were joking.
  7. Does this mean we can't have sex tonight?
(compiled Emily McKhann and the readers of themotherhood.com and Jill Smokler of scarymommy.com)

Gus & I really don't fight much (anymore, LOL), but I'm sure he has thought most of those. The one that really fits him is #1. And he doesn't actually say it. If I tell him something (again, not fighting - just talking) and he replies "yeah", or "uh-huh" and then nothing else, that's my clue that he has no idea what I've just said. So I'll say, "Did you hear me?" - and of course, his standard reply is "Yes, I heard you". But for some reason, he can never seem to tell me what I just said. One of these days, he's going to miss something really important.  ;-)

Mean old people...

Thursday, August 18, 2011

What makes old people think that they can be rude, mean, & generally unpleasant when they're in the grocery store??

I was raised to respect my elders. I'll hold doors, give them my seat, help with packages - generally whatever I can do that would be helpful and not insulting. I have the utmost respect for my elders. But man, some of them just do not deserve it.

There must have been 50 people over the age of 75 at the grocery store today. Only one of them was pleasant. The rest? Several blocked the aisles. One came to a complete & sudden stop right in front of me so that I almost plowed her over - then looked at me like I was at fault. (Maybe I was - is rear-ending someone with a cart like rear-ending them with a car?) One glared at me because I dared to stop & grab something off a shelf. Another came racing (yeah, I know - most move at a snail's pace, but this one was a regular Dale Earnhardt) around the corner & almost plowed into me. I stopped, and said, "I'm sorry. Excuse me." - even though it wasn't my fault - but she just gave me a hateful look & jerked her cart around to pass me. Then I had to wait 5 minutes in the cereal aisle because two old biddies older ladies were chatting right in front of the cereal I needed, and they couldn't hear me saying "excuse me".

Seriously? What is it about the grocery store that makes senior citizens act like Cujo? Are they hungry? Geesh - there's a Starbucks as you walk in - grab a frappuccino or something. Did they miss a nap? Go home & come back later! Are they in pain? Here's some ibuprofen & the keys to the motorized cart. Do they need help? Just ask!!

If my kids had ever behaved like these seniors, I would've given them one warning and then given them a time-out. And they wouldn't get to go to the store next time. I never allowed them to act like that in public.

Is this kind of behavior something I need to fear as I grow older? Will I one day wake up, go to the grocery store, and suddenly have the urge to block aisles, cut people off, and glare at anyone who makes eye contact with me? Okay, sometimes I do the glaring thing now, but will I start doing the other stuff? I can only hope that my kids will take me out of the store & give me a time out if I go over to the dark side.

11 things never to say to a man you love...

Thursday, June 16, 2011

I saw this in a recent issue of Redbook magazine (actually Gus found it & showed it to me, LOL!) and thought it was absolutely hilarious (and true!!) - so I thought I'd share it here:

11 Things Never To Say To A Man You Love
  1. I can't wait to see what you're doing for my birthday.
  2. Are you... crying?
  3. If we leave right now, we'll have time to stop by Bed Bath & Beyond.
  4. Do you need help lighting the grill?
  5. I'm putting this whole conversation on my blog.
  6. You had so much hair back then!
  7. I don't care how big and drunk he is, he shouldn't be talking through the movie. I'm going to say something.
  8. Actually, it doesn't happen to every guy.
  9. We're vegetarians now.
  10. My dad can fix that; you should call him.
  11. You know why.
(compiled by Troy Patee of dadventurous.com, Shawn Burns of backpackingdad.com, and Aaron Traister of redbookmag.com)

C'mon, be honest - how many of these have you said?? I have definitely said #3, #5, #6, #7, and #11!!! LOL!!

What a waste of money...

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

I don't usually get too upset over products that I don't like, but these really, really annoyed me!

Have you tried the new Downy with scent pearls? I love Downy's original "April Fresh" scent. I've used it for over 20 years because I love it so much. Heck, I even buy the 197 load bottles. That's why I was so upset over my last purchase. The bottle said "NEW", and next to that, it said "with scent pearls". The fragrance was listed lower on the label - and it said "April Fresh" - no "new" beside it. So I assumed that the scent was the same & the only thing new was that they had added scent pearls. WRONG. This stuff doesn't even remotely smell like Downy's original April Fresh scent. It smells so bad that it made my laundry room & kitchen stink. And it's one of those scents that makes me want to gag. Even Buddy (who never notices anything) came upstairs and said, "What's that nasty smell?" - actually I think his language was a bit more colorful, but I'm paraphrasing here.

I emailed Downy customer service, and to their credit, they did send me a coupon for a free container of Downy. I hope it's good on the 197 load size since that's what I'm replacing - the coupon does say "any size". So I hope I can find one of the "old" bottles. But I wasn't pleased that they didn't admit to changing the scent. They just said "we added scent pearls - you may want to use less or try our fragrance-free version". Well, they may have added scent pearls, but they weren't APRIL FRESH scent pearls. And the original April Fresh scent is the reason I use the product, so no, I don't want the fragrance-free version. Seriously - if they discontinue the original scent, I will buy another brand. I'm still trying to get over the fact that they discontinued the lavender scent, which was my favorite for sheets.

And then, I opened up the Tarte emphasEYES eyeliner that I got at the end of May - and it was completely dried out!! I only used it a few times and it was stored tightly capped. It's so dried out that it's cracked! WTF?? I can probably add some eyeliner sealant to it to rejuvenate it, but who wants to mess with that? And I shouldn't have to, should I? So this liner probably only lasted 2-3 months because it's obviously been dried up for awhile. I definitely won't purchase any more of these!

That dent you see in the liner is where I pushed as hard as I could with the handle of an eyeshadow brush - it barely dented the stuff!

And while I'm on the subject of products that don't work well/I don't like - there's the Murad Essential-C Eye Cream. I got a sample of it at some point - I assume from Sephora - and decided to give it a try. It has a fairly thick consistency & is a little greasy - but the worse part is the smell. Ewwww! It had a date on it, and it wasn't expired, so I guess this is how it's supposed to smell. It reminds me of dry cat food. Not on my list of favorite scents. In the end, it didn't matter, because my super-sensitive eyes didn't like the stuff anyway. I ended up with eczema everywhere I applied it.

Needless to say, I won't be repurchasing.  :-)

Pet Peeves

Monday, October 25, 2010

You know those things that aren't really that big of a deal, but for some reason, annoy you tremendously? Yeah - your pet peeves. I encountered one of mine today and that made me start thinking about the other things that bug me...

1) Ungroomed eyebrows - when women who have dark eyebrows take/post close-ups of their eyes and they haven't groomed their brows, it doesn't matter how pretty the eye shadow looks, I can't see past all the dark hairs that need to be plucked.

2) Dirty feet - I actually gag a little when I see people in sandals or flip-flops and their feet are dirty. It's even worse if they need a pedicure - and trust me, if their feet are dirty, they always need a pedicure, too.

3) People who get into line and aren't prepared. Do not get into the drive-thru line at the bank if you don't have your deposit/withdrawal slips ready!! Do not get into line at the post office if you don't have your package(s) taped & labeled!!

4) People who cough all over the place - or who cover their mouth with their hand & then proceed to use that hand to touch everything in sight. I'm not a germaphobe, but damn...

5) Waitresses (or waiters) who don't ask me if I'd like dessert before bringing me the check. Even if I don't want dessert, I like to be asked. Hello? If I buy dessert, my bill will be more - and if my bill is more, you're going to get a larger tip. If you don't bother to ask me - I'm going to tip 15% (or less, if the service also sucked) instead of my usual 20% or more.

What are some of your pet peeves?

Random ramblings...

Friday, October 22, 2010

I had my annual eye exam the other day, and my dilated eyes were making me laugh, so of course, I had to take a picture. Please ignore the messy eyeliner/eye shadow - it's hard to look good after they've put 3 different kinds of drops in your eyes.  ;-)

Between the dilated pupil and brown eye shadow, my eyes definitely look grayish-green - and there isn't a dark ring around the outside edge of the iris. I only noticed this because I was looking at pictures of my eyes with purple shadow and they look very blue with a little green - and there is definitely a dark blue ring around the outer edge of the iris, LOL. See? I'm not wearing any contact lenses in either picture and the pictures were taken one day apart.

I'm amused by the oddest things.  :-)
