This is a subject that is very close to my heart. My beloved Grammy, who passed away in 1998, died from heart disease. She had high cholesterol and high blood pressure. After several heart attacks, she underwent angioplasty, two open heart surgeries with bypasses, and a carotid endarterectomy. My mother also has high cholesterol and high blood pressure and has suffered a major heart attack, which resulted in the need for angioplasty. I, too, have high cholesterol and high blood pressure, so you can see why I worry about what is in my future cardiac-wise.
The March issue of Woman's Day has several good articles about women's heart health. They also have some articles available online:
Heart disease is the number one killer of women - stroke is the number three killer. Women have different heart attack symptoms than men and are more likely to die from a heart attack! Ladies, let's take care of ourselves! Men, let the ladies in your life know that you care about their heart health!
