Movie reviews

Friday, June 29, 2012

Gus and I have seen a few movies lately, so I thought I'd talk about them a little. Let's start with the one I liked the most...

The Avengers - Oh. Mighty. Hammer. Of. Thor. (*fanning self*) There is a lot of eye candy in this movie. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is my favorite - both the character and the actor. I'm a Mark Ruffalo fan, too, and I loved him as The Hulk. Robert Downey, Jr. as Ironman is witty as usual, but we don't see much of Pepper Potts (Gwenyth Paltrow). I even liked Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Next is Captain America (Chris Evans). Yeah, he's nice to look at, but I'm not overly impressed with his character. Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson) were my least favorite characters. It's an action-packed movie & I highly recommend it. You don't need to have seen the previous Marvel movies, but it does help. 5 out of 5 stars!!

Men in Black 3 - Another Men in Black movie. If you liked the first two, then you'll like this one. I enjoyed it a lot. There's even a plot twist at the end that I bet most people don't see coming - I didn't, and I figure plots out all the time (which is why Buddy won't sit next to me, and when he does have to sit next to me he looks at me and says "just don't"). I'm not a Josh Brolin fan at all, but I don't think they could've found a better person to play a young Tommy Lee Jones. He definitely stole the show. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

And one that we saw back before I had the latest surgery:

Underworld Awakening - You know I love werewolves and vampires - and I love the Underworld movies. This one was no exception. Plenty of action, pretty cool plot that definitely leaves an opening for another movie. Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is the main focus of the movie this time, and you only get to see Michael (Scott Speedman) in old footage. But there is a new kid on the block, so that's pretty interesting. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

And a couple of movies we watched on DVD:

Tower Heist - this movie stars Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy, so I thought it would be hilarious - especially with Alan Alda as the "bad" guy. Not so much. It was okay, but not as good as I thought it would be. 2.5 stars out of 5.

Apollo 18 - All I'm going to say is that I stopped watching it after the first 20 minutes. It gets no stars.

DVDs!

Friday, October 28, 2011

Since pretty much all I do these days is lay around the house, I've managed to watch a couple of DVDs. I'm a little behind the times, but hey - maybe some of you are, too. :-)

No Strings Attached - Ashton Kutcher, Natalie Portman, Kevin Kline
A lot like "Friends with Benefits" (which I haven't seen yet), but this one came out first, LOL. I liked it - it was fun, light-hearted, and pretty much what you would expect. I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Source Code - Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga
I'm not sure if this is sci-fi, thriller, drama - I guess I would call it an "action sci-fi thriller".
It was pretty good, although I had a little trouble following it in the beginning. Of course, that could be due to back pain & prescription pain meds. I liked it for the most part, but something about it bothered me a little. I can't put my finger on it. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars.

And I almost forgot that I saw these a month or so ago!

Just Go With It - Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Kidman
I'm not a big Adam Sandler fan - except when he does movies like this. When he tones down the obnoxious humor a bit, I find him extremely funny & likable. This is definitely a romantic comedy, but it's not a chick flick. I loved it & so did Gus. Definitely 5 out of 5 stars.

All About Steve - Bradley Cooper, Sandra Bullock, Thomas Haden Church, Ken Jeong
A little over the top, slightly goofy - but funny enough that I didn't feel like I wasted my time. There are some really funny parts, for sure. I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

DVDs & Another Summer Movie

Saturday, August 6, 2011

Gus & I went to see Captain American: The First Avenger last weekend. As you know, I'm a huge Marvel Comics geek, so of course, I loved it (and so did Gus). IMO, Tommy Lee Jones should've been given a larger role - he almost steals the show. He has some great lines & his delivery is impeccable. It was a perfect role for him. I also loved Stanley Tucci (whose role was also too small). And whew, *stops to fan self* did Chris Evans look hot as Captain America/Steve Rogers. A hundred times more hot than as Human Torch/Johnny Storm. It's a great, fun movie - and don't forget to stay until after the credits to catch the extra scene that Marvel always gives us. One word - Avengers.  :-)  4.5 out of 5 stars.

Then there are a couple of DVDs that we watched -

I Am Number Four - Alex Pettyfer, Dianna Agron, Timothy Olyphant, Teresa Palmer
It's definitely geared towards teenagers, but I think if you watch it with that in mind, it's not a bad movie. It's like Twilight & The Terminator had a movie baby. Seriously, the last scene is sooooo Terminator (the first one), LOL. 3 out of 5 stars - but don't expect anything really intellectual or unusual. And yes, they left it open for sequels.

Gnomeo & Juliet - James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Jason Statham, Ozzy Osbourne
Okay, okay - I know it's a movie about gnomes - but I thought it was hilarious. Yes, it's silly, but it's also funny - and I like movies that make me laugh. And I'm easily amused, LOL. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

More summer movies...

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Gus & I have seen a couple more summer movies - and we loved both of them!

Bad Teacher - Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel, Lucy Punch, Justin Timberlake
Mwahaha!! Sooo funny!! Absolutely wrong in so many ways, but hysterically funny!! I'm not usually a Cameron Diaz fan, but she's great in this movie - definitely reminds me of her in There's Something About Mary. And I just love Justin Timberlake!! I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Horrible Bosses - Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sedeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx
Oh my gosh - this movie is HILARIOUS!!! We never stopped laughing. We loved Bridesmaids, but this was even better. You have to see this movie!!! Definitely 5 out of 5 stars!!

New movie reviews!!

Friday, June 24, 2011

The Hangover, Part II - Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zack Galifianakis, Justin BarTHA, Ken Jeong. Oh. My. Goodness. If you liked the first Hangover movie, chances are that you'll like this one, too. Same raunchy humor, same funny guys. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Bridesmaids - Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper. Seriously - this may be one of the best movies of all time. I absolutely loved it - and so did Gus. It's definitely not just a chick flick. Do yourself a favor - go see it. 5 out of 5 stars!

X-Men: First Class - James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, January Jones, Rose Byrne, Kevin Bacon. Are you a fan of X-Men? Marvel Comics? If so, you'll probably enjoy this movie. I liked it a lot. There are some discrepancies between this movie and some of the other X-Men movies, but you can either let it bug you or let it go - I just let it go, LOL. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Movies on DVD - reviews!

Monday, June 13, 2011

Due Date - Robert Downey Jr. + Zach Galifianakis = hilarious!! I loved this movie!! Jamie Foxx is pretty funny, too. Definitely 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Knight and Day - Cameron Diaz & Tom Cruise. Blah. Didn't really like this one all that much. I'm very glad I didn't pay theater prices to see it. 2 out of 5 stars.

Killers - Katherine Heigl & Ashton Kutcher. Yes, it's kind of silly - but I thought it was really funny. Gus & I both enjoyed it. Loved Tom Selleck & Catherine O'Hara!! 4 out of 5 stars!

Love and Other Drugs - Anne Hathaway & Jake Gyllenhaal. I really wanted to like this, but I absolutely cannot bear to watch any movie that is sad. It could be the best movie in the world and I couldn't watch it. I made it about halfway through the movie before I just broke down & bawled my eyes out. We had to turn it off. So I really can't rate it - sorry!

Megamind - Will Ferrell & Tina Fey. Yep, another "silly" one, but Gus & I thought it was pretty funny. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

You Again - Kristen Bell, Jamie Curtis, Sigourney Weaver, Betty White, & Odette Yustman. Kind of a chick flick, but funny enough that Gus enjoyed it, too. We both thought it was pretty funny. 4 out of 5 stars.

Little Fockers - Robert DeNiro, Ben Stiller, Blythe Danner, Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, & Teri Polo. I thought the other two "Focker" movies were hilarious & this one is no different. I can't even look at Robert DeNiro without laughing, LOL. If you liked the other ones, be sure to watch this one, too! 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Summer movies

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

I'm a little behind in seeing new movies, but I have managed to catch a couple...

Buddy & I saw Thor a couple of weeks ago. As I've mentioned before, I'm a huge fan of the Marvel Comics movies, and this one was no exception. Lots of action, and Chris Hemsworth is hot, hot, hot as Thor. Every time I would see Tom Hiddleston (Loki) on the screen, I would think, "Gosh, he looks like Johnny Weir!", LOL! Oh - and as with all Marvel movies, there is an additional scene after the credits, so be sure to stick around for that.

Gus & I saw Fast Five last week. Even if you didn't like the Fast & Furious movies, you could just get by on the eye candy. Wowza. Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang - that's some serious man candy. But the movie is good, too. This one picks up right where Fast & Furious (2009) ended - but is still before The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. There is an additional scene during the credits, so be sure to watch for it - it sets up the possibility for another movie.

And don't forget to check runpee.com for times to, well, run pee. You can also get the app for your iPhone. I always use this! LOL! It will also tell you if there is an additional scene during/after the credits.

Just saying...

Friday, April 1, 2011

  1. Season 4 of True Blood starts June 26 - woot!! I can't decide if I'm Team Eric or Team Alcide, so I'm hoping they both bring some hotness to the screen.
  2. Turn signals were put on your car for a reason. That reason is to signal the other drivers around you that you intend to turn. It doesn't help much if you signal as you're turning or if you signal, start to turn, then change your mind at the last minute and swerve back into the other lane and almost hit the car that was behind you, but has now moved up to beside you. Of course, that does explain the smashed tail light on the passenger side of your car...
  3. The Hangover, Part II comes out May 26!! Watch the trailer - it's hilarious!! I also want to see Arthur (April 8), Fast Five (April 29) - seriously?? Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, AND Dwayne Johnson??, Thor (May 6), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (May 20), X-Men First Class (June 3), The Green Lantern (June 17), Cars 2 (June 24), Transformers: Dark of the Moon (July 11), the last Harry Potter (July 15), & Captain America (July 22). I can't decide if I want to see Bridesmaids and Priest (both May 13) - they looked like something I might like, but I'm not 100% sure yet. (If you click on the links, they take you to the movie trailers). Oh - and Source Code looks interesting - I think it opens today.
  4. Way, way tired of this cold weather crap. It snowed again the other day! So much for Punxsutawny Phil and his predictions for spring. Whose idea was it to trust a groundhog to predict the weather anyway? Well, I guess he is just about as reliable as the weathermen on the local news - but I'm ready for some warm weather!!
  5. Thank God for pain pills.
  6. Was there really life before internet, laptops, and iPhones? I'd be less upset if I forgot my purse than if I forgot my iPhone. And let's not forget Starbucks.

Have a great weekend!!

Reels, reels, reels!!

Monday, March 28, 2011

I've spent a lot of time watching movies since December, when I started having health issues. Most have been on DVD, but some have been at the theater.

Since there are so many, I don't want to do a plot synopsis along with the review. Besides, you're all perfectly capable of looking up the movie if you're interested, LOL. So I'll include a link to the movie on imdb.com, but other than that, I'm just going to rate the movie and mention things that I particularly liked or hated.

I give this movie a 3 out of 5. It wasn't bad if you watched it with the full realization of what type of movie it was meant to be, you know?

I like this one - but I like action movies that are also a bit funny - especially if it's "dry" humor. I give this one a 4 out of 5. I hope there is a sequel.

This one was okay. Yummy man candy (Paul Walker!), but my attention drifted several times. I almost didn't watch it because Chris Brown is in it, but I'm glad I did. Would you believe that I didn't recognize Hayen Christensen until halfway through the movie? LOL! This one gets a 3 out of 5.

I loved this one! Yes, it's outrageous & silly - but it was hilarious! This one gets 4.5 out of 5!

You should know that I am a big fan of Dwayne Johnson, so I'm probably going to like any movie that he's in - except maybe that football one - I didn't see that one. A bit different for him - he doesn't usually play a "bad" guy. Billy Bob Thornton plays his usual disgusting, slimy role. I give this one a 3.5 out of 5.

Another Dwayne Johnson movie - I think this one was by Disney - but I liked it. It was funny and cute - and there is one scene where Dwayne is shirtless. I give this one a 3.5 out of 5.

I'm not a Twilight fan, but I have watched all of the movies on DVD. Robert Pattinson doesn't impress me, and I hate the expressions on Kristen Stewart's face. Taylor Lautner, well, he's another story. His lines are pretty cheesy, but he's a hunka-hunka-burning love. This was my favorite Twilight movie so far (not saying a lot). It gets a 2.75 out of 5.

Ah, Jason Statham. More man candy. And yes, you get to see him shirtless. Lots of action, explosions, etc. A couple of parts moved a little slowly, but for the most part it was really good. I give it almost 4 out of 5.

I'm a sucker for vampires & werewolves, so I had to see this one. Yes, I thought it was a bit Twilight-ish (not a good thing in my book), and there were a lot of close-ups of Amanda Seyfried's lips (like Megan Fox's in Transformers - except Amanda's were matte red instead of super glossy) - but it was a decent story. I guessed identity of the wolf early on in the movie, but it still made me keep second-guessing myself. I give it a 3.5 out of 4.

Can I just say O.M.G.? This movie is freakin' hilarious!! If you're easily offended, you'll probably want to avoid this one. And it definitely isn't for the kiddies. But if you love raunchy humor, you don't want to miss it. There are also a lot of references to (and lines from) Star Wars, Aliens, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E. T., Indiana Jones, etc. This one gets a 5 out of 5!

The Green Hornet

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

I know I'm really showing my age by saying this, but I remember watching "The Green Hornet" TV series. I think it may have been reruns, because I was only 5 years old when it originally aired - but still...

Gus & I went to see the movie the Friday it opened. I think we were at the 4:00pm showing and there really weren't that many people there - I'd say 20-25 tops.

The movie stars Seth Rogen as Britt Reid/The Green Hornet and Jay Chou as Kato, his assistant/sidekick. Basically, after Britt's father dies, Britt & Kato team up to fight crime. Of course, there are a few plot twists, and a lot of humor. Cameron Diaz plays Lenore, Britt's secretary.

Personally, Kato was my favorite character. If I remember correctly, I always liked Kato best in the series, too. Seth Rogen is funny, but he's another one of those comedians who gets on my nerves after awhile. I'm also not a huge Cameron Diaz fan. I did enjoy the movie - it was fun & funny. Not great - but good. I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Predators

Monday, January 3, 2011

So who else loves the Predator movies?? I do, I do!! The Alien movies were okay, but I really liked Predator and all of the Alien vs. Predator movies. Unfortunately, this one was a little disappointing to me.

From imdb.com: "Chosen for their ability to kill without conscience, a group of killers, some trained and some who are not, must endeavor the alien race of predators that have set out to target them as prey. Dropped into the vast jungle of a distant world, these human predators must learn just who, or what, they are up against, and that their ability, knowledge and wits are tested to the limits in the battle of survival of kill or be killed."

To me, there was just too much with the humans and not enough with the predators. And the little twist at the end was just kind of stupid, if you ask me. I wasn't impressed. I was, however, impressed with Adrien Brody's abs - nice, very nice - especially for such a scrawny dude, LOL.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars. If you have a couple of hours to kill, give it a try - but just don't expect too much from it.

Jonah Hex

Saturday, January 1, 2011

I admit it - I like the comic book movies. I'm a geek, LOL! I wasn't familiar with Jonah Hex (I'm more familiar with Marvel than DC) - but it looked like it might be an interesting movie. Gus was all for watching it just for Megan Fox. *rolls eyes* I would watch it for John Malkovich - he does crazy so well!

From imdb.com: "The U.S. military makes a scarred bounty hunter with warrants on his own head an offer he cannot refuse: in exchange for his freedom, he must stop a terrorist who is ready to unleash Hell on Earth."

Of course, the terrorist is the same man who scarred Jonah's face & killed his family - so he's happy to seek revenge. Jonah has the nifty little ability of being able to speak with the dead (if he touches them) - a skill that he acquired after his own near-death experience. Those scenes are gruesome, funny, and a little disturbing, LOL. Naturally, Megan Fox's scenes involve close-ups of her heaving bosom and/or glossy lips (just like Tranformers 1 & 2). Whatever.

It was an okay movie. I'm glad I didn't pay to see it in the theater, but it was okay to kill time at home. I'd give it 2.5 out of 5 stars.

The A-Team

Friday, December 31, 2010

Gus & I watched The A-Team the other night - I loved it! Gus saw it in October (it was the in-flight movie when he flew to Germany) and really liked it, so he was happy to watch it again with me.

I remember watching the TV series, but I don't think I ever really knew how the team ended up together doing the things they did. I think it was just one of those shows that I watched & liked, but didn't pay too much attention to the details (other than thinking that Dirk Benedict was cute, LOL). So I was glad that they explained those little details in the movie - even though it was updated to make them Iraq War vets court-martialed unjustly rather than Vietnam War vets court-martialed for robbing the Bank of Hanoi.

Liam Neeson was awesome as Hannibal - and of course, Bradley Cooper was really good as Face (and he did plenty of screen time shirtless so we could pay homage to his incredible abs). But Sharlto Copley was hilarious as Murdoch! I shall now forgive him for starring in the horrible, horrible film "District 9" (one of the only movies I ever considered walking out of...ick). And I never noticed this before, but he looks enough like Tim Roth to be his brother!

The plot twist was pretty easy to figure out early on, but there was still enough action and comedy to keep me interested for the entire movie. If you like the actors and/or action/comedy films, I think you'll enjoy this one. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Avatar

Sunday, December 26, 2010

I know, I know - now I'm really showing how far behind we are...yes, we just watched Avatar. I had no desire to see it in the theater - and (hangs head in shame) I've had the DVD from Netflix since July.

I don't know why I was so reluctant to watch it. I wasn't thrilled by the trailers - I have no special desire to see any of the actors that were in it - so I guess I just didn't want to invest 3 hours of my time. It's like Star Wars meets FernGully meets Robocop...sort of...

If you don't know what it's about: Humans are on the planet of Pandora - some want to mine unobtanium (a valuable mineral), no matter the cost to the planet or it's natives - and some want to study the planet & it's natives in order to learn more about them. The natives don't trust the humans, so scientists took human DNA & native DNA and made "avatars" that look like natives, but are controlled by the humans' consciousness. Sam Worthington plays a paraplegic Marine who takes his brother's place in the mission - and as his avatar, he can walk. Of course, he originally infiltrates a tribe to try to get them to move without a war (so the humans can mine beneath their home), but he falls in love and eventually wants to stay & help the Na'vi. Lots of action, lots of cool scenes.

I actually liked it! It held my interest for the entire 3 hours. Gus even managed to stay awake for the whole thing (that's quite a feat - trust me). I'm sorry I waited so long to watch it. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. I won't wait so long to watch the second one when it comes out.  :-)

Toy Story 3

Friday, December 24, 2010

Who doesn't love Buzz and Woody? When he was around 7 years old, Buddy dressed up as Woody for Halloween for 2 years in a row - and he had a Buzz Lightyear action figure. We loved the Toy Story movies.

In this one, Andy is getting ready to go to college and he's packing up his old toys to go in the attic - except Woody, who he puts in the "college" box. But he gets distracted by his sister, Molly, and his mom mistakenly puts the toys in the garbage. Woody tries to save them and they end up being donated to a daycare center. They're "welcomed" by a bear named Lotso - and are excited to be with children again...until they discover just how these children treat the toys and that Lotso isn't as nice as he first seemed.

It was funny, it was sad -  it had a message. It made me laugh - and I wiped away a couple of tears, too. Raise your hand if you felt bad for mistreating/ignoring your toys when you were young. *raises hand*

I would definitely watch it again - and I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. If you haven't seen it, you should watch it soon!

Date Night

Thursday, December 23, 2010

Yep, just now getting around to seeing this one, too...

I love Tina Fey - I think she is hilarious. Steve Carrell I can take or leave. To me, he's a lot like Jim Carrey - funny in small doses, but after awhile, everything is just too overdone. And Mark Wahlberg? Heck, any movie that allows him to be shirtless in every scene is A-ok with me. (and Mark Ruffalo isn't too bad either, LOL!)

Here's the deal: Married couple, bored with their lives, decide to spice up their date night. When they can't get a table at a new, exclusive restaurant, they decide to pretend to be another couple when they don't show up for their reservation. Unfortunately, that couple is being chased by some bad dudes...so you can see where this goes.

It's pretty funny. James Franco & Mila Kunis are hilarious as Taste & Whippit - even though their scene is pretty short. Is it a great movie? No. Would I watch it again? Probably. Do I feel like I wasted my time watching it? No. It made me laugh. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Hot Tub Time Machine

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

We got this DVD from Netflix at least 2 months ago and just now got around to watching it! Have you seen it?

If you're not familiar with it, it's about these four friends (well, one is much younger and is actually the nephew of one of the older guys) who are unhappy with their lives and go back to the ski lodge where they partied in the 80's, hoping to relive their glory days. While drinking in the hot tub, they somehow end up back in 1987...

This is one of those movies that is stupid but funny, LOL.  A lot of guy humor (although I laughed, too)...sex, drugs, nudity, profanity...you definitely don't want the kiddies watching this one. If you're looking for a movie that's just funny & you don't want to have to try to figure anything out in the plot - this is one to try.

I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars - and I'd probably watch it again. Of course, Gus & Buddy found it extremely funny.  ;-)

Daybreakers

Sunday, October 24, 2010

Yeah, yeah, I know. The movie came out last year. And the DVD came out in January. And the Netflix DVD has been sitting in my living room since July. But I'm just now getting around to watching it. Oops.

You know I love vampire movies. Well, except for those Twilight flicks. This movie isn't about pretty, sparkly vampires in love. This movie has a few nasty-looking creatures and gets pretty gory.

In a nutshell: most people are vampires, and the human population has dwindled. Blood is in short supply and no one has been able to make a synthetic product that works. (Apparently, they've never heard of Tru:Blood.) Ethan Hawke plays a vampire hematologist who is trying to create a synthetic blood product - but the company he works for doesn't really want a synthetic product. He eventually meets up with a group of humans and discovers a way to "cure" vampirism. But of course, not everyone wants to be cured. Mayhem, blood, & gore soon follow.

It was okay. It held my attention, but I'm glad I didn't pay to see it in the theater. It was a good movie to watch when I didn't have anything else to do, LOL. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Red

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

Gus & I went to see "Red" on Friday. Loved it!! I love action movies - especially when there is comedy involved.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I really, really like Bruce Willis. I was a diehard (pun intended, LOL) fan of Moonlighting back in the 80's. He plays Frank Moses, a retired black-ops agent who lives in the suburbs of Cleveland and is attempting to pursue a relationship with Sarah Ross (Mary-Louise Parker) in a very interesting way.

The government (or someone??) decides that Frank and his old crew (John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, & Helen Mirren) know too much and tags them RED - retired, extremely dangerous - which means they are to be eliminated.

Now who doesn't get a chuckle out of the crazy characters that John Malkovich plays? You won't be disappointed with his character, Marvin, in this movie. Helen Mirren & Morgan Freeman both play characters that are a far cry from their usual - and they play then well. Karl Urban (he played Bones in the most recent Star Trek movie) plays one of the FBI agents who is after the group.

There are several other stars that you'll probably recognize in this movie - Ernest Borgnine, Richard Dreyfuss, Julian McMahon, James Remar...

So if you like action & comedy, I think you'll like this movie. The plot lags a little from time to time, but overall, it's fast-paced and full of action. Two thumbs up!!

Death at a Funeral

Monday, August 30, 2010

Gus and I watched "Death at a Funeral" last night. We saw the trailer in the theater several months ago and thought it looked like something we'd enjoy, but just now got around to actually watching it.

I believe it's a remake - but I didn't see the original. Basically, it's centered around the funeral of a man whose family has gathered to say their last goodbyes. With Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, and Luke Wilson as part of the cast, you can pretty much count on chaos and some unexpected twists.

In my opinion, James Marsden was the funniest person in the movie, followed by a crotchety Danny Glover (as Uncle Russell). Columbus Short (Brian) also had a few good scenes. "It's on my cheek!" made me laugh a lot, LOL.

Overall, I was a little disappointed with the movie. There were some really funny lines/scenes - but most of it just kind of fell flat. I was glad it was only 92 minutes long. I'd give it 2 out of 5 stars. It's good for a few laughs when you don't have anything else to watch, but I wouldn't go out of my way to rent it.
